Cartoons for peace
From May 3 to June 3, 2012,
Open air exhibition, Quai Wilson, Geneva
Kofi Annan, Pierre Maudet, Ahmad Fawzi
On the day our Foundation presented its 2012 Award to four Iranian cartoonists, representing the promise of a new generation of artists from this country, we opened the exhibition “Cartoons for Peace 2012” on the shores of Lake Geneva. The show was opened by our Honorary Chair Kofi Annan.
A main part of the exhibition was dedicated to the winning cartoonists Firoozeh, Kianoush, Hassan Karimzadeh, present in Geneva, and Mana Neyestani. According to Plantu, then President of the Foundation, “Their cartoons highlight the limitations and restrictions on freedom of expression; they have to arrange these constraints to express themselves.”
The show also included a hundred editorial cartoons from around the world on issues of freedom of expression, the Arab Spring and Women’s Rights.
In collaboration with the Association Cartooning for Peace, Paris.
