Ann Telnaes made world news last January when she quit The Washington Post over a cartoon that was turned down—a first in her 17-year collaboration with the paper. She said at the time, “I will not stop holding truth to power through my cartooning, because, as they say, ‘Democracy dies in darkness.’”
At the invitation of the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation, on whose advisory board she sits, Ann joined us for this unique (and sold out) event.
About the film: Built around Ann Telnaes, Democracy Under Siege explores the flaws in the American political system through the testimonies of experts, members of Congress, and authors. Made just before the 2024 election of Donald Trump, this film—illustrated with editorial cartoons—strikes us today as a warning about U.S. democracy that has not been heard.
